I have spent three years carefully writing this book after being recruited by St. Thomas' Fire Department. Not only have I researched this material—I have lived it!

This book unlike other firefighting books does not include information such as how much money a firefighter makes and what kind of benefits firefighters are entitled to and so on.  This book is all about STRATEGY, DECISION MAKING, PROBLEM SOLVING, PREPARATION, KNOWLEDGE…these are the fundamentals of becoming a firefighter.

You need to start somewhere and that is exactly what this chapter does for you.  I know personally the frustration that accompanies the decision to become a firefighter. The book is structured so that you the reader can understand in full what is expected of a firefighter today and how to achieve the credentials to pursue this career effectively.
