Firefighter: St. Thomas Fire Department

I never had any ambitions to become a firefighter until my last few months of my apprenticeship.This was brought on after attending a firefighter recruitment seminar in my home town of London, Ontario. I came home that night with an overwhelming desire to be a firefighter. It took me two years to get hired as a firefighter for the St. Thomas fire department (start date: June 20th, 2003). I started to write my manuscript for a firefighter recruit book days after being hired by the St. Thomas fire department.

During my pursuit of becoming a firefighter I tried to research as much as I could about how to become a firefighter. But to my surprise there was no real governing authority on this subject and I found the market saturated with universal firefighting information. To prevent others from this situation I decided to become that authority. In 2004 I completed the book Becoming a Firefighter: The Ultimate Recruit Guide For Canadian Firefighters. I decided to print 500 copies of my book making me a self published author. I didn't stop there; I needed to provide more support to firefighter recruits and to accomplish this I created and host this website called www.becomingafirefighter.com.

My commitment to firefighter recruits has grown stronger as well as my presence as a resource for recruits over the last couple of years. Devoting time to visit firefighting schools, writing articles for international firefighting magazines and hosting my own firefighter recruit seminars. Becomingafirefighter.com continues to be the leading authority on becoming a firefighter.

Becoming a firefighter has definitely changed my life as well as my perspective on it. Devoting my time to help firefighter recruits achieve their dreams has become one of my favorite pass times.
